SPORTS MASSAGE AND ITS BENEFITS
Leading an active lifestyle is not an easy task, especially for muscle recovery after another hard work out. Many athletes attend sports massages, which help to tone the muscles in a short time. But besides this, such a relaxing massage has a number of other advantages, which we will discuss below.
After training in the gym, regardless of whether you are a professional athlete or a beginner, your muscles get overloaded. Metabolic elements begin to accumulate in them, microfractures form, as well as lactic acid, which causes muscle pain. Premium class gyms have their own massage room. And this is entirely justified, because the beneficial properties of massage are simply amazing.
Sports massage is a special massage technique that reduces muscle injury, helps to recover quickly after training, and also improves the functionality of an athlete.
SPORTS MASSAGE TECHNIQUE
A distinctive feature of sports massage is its intensity and type of impact. After all, in addition to preparing the muscles and toning them up, this massage also helps to rehabilitate after sports injuries: bruises, dislocations, sprains, etc.
The technique of sports massage directly depends on the type of sport you are engaged in and the intensity of training (beginner, amateur or pro). The massage itself is performed with high intensity for all muscle groups, with special emphasis on those areas of the body where the maximum load is planned. For runners, a sports foot massage will be preferable, for swimmers — a massage of the arms and back. All movements of the massage therapist are performed in the direction of the lymph flow, and they should not be painful or unpleasant.
Remember that a restorative massage should be carried out no more than 2-3 hours after training, since it is important to “catch” the moment when the muscles are most malleable, and they can be worked out and restored as efficiently as possible.
WHAT IS THE USE OF MASSAGE AFTER A WORKOUT?
Full body massage after training (both strength and cardio) improves cell regeneration, blood circulation and promotes the active movement of lymph, which leads to the elimination of harmful substances from the body.
And also:
- completely relaxes the muscles
- removes lactic acid from tissues
- reduces post-workout muscle pain
- relieves fatigue and stress
- saturates muscle tissue with oxygen
- increases muscle tone and strength
- removes excess components from the body
- has a preventive effect against adhesions and fibrosis
SPORTS MASSAGE: TYPES
Sports massage has several varieties. And the most popular of them are power massage, and deep tissue massage.
Power massage
This type of massage is designed for thorough and deep study of muscles and subcutaneous fat. Power massage is recommended to be done after a significant physical exertion to relieve muscle pain. Despite its name, power massage is practically painless.
Deep-tissue massage
Deep-tissue massage helps to eliminate deformations of tendons, fascia, ligaments and other connective tissues. They have a smooth and painless effect to eliminate overload and relieve pain.
RECOMMENDATIONS
After intense physical workout, the muscles become very vulnerable and. Therefore, it is very important to “catch” the moment when the influence of massage will help to restore them quickly and efficiently.
It is recommended to carry out sports massage after training for 2-3 hours from the moment of completion of physical exercises. But the break before the next workout should be at least 12 hours so that the muscles have time to tone up. Massage is not recommended if you have damaged or broken something during training.
