LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE

Lymphatic drainage body massage

Lymphatic drainage massage is a “general cleaning” and detox for the body. Together with lymph, harmful substances, excess water, and decay products are removed from our body. Sedentary lifestyle interferes with the movement of lymph due to compression of blood vessels. The intercellular space is filled with toxins, a feeling of fatigue appears, the protective functions of the body are weakened, the metabolism is disrupted. A course of lymphatic drainage massage restores tone, energy, strengthens the immune system, helps to become slimmer.

What is lymph and why it is important?

Lymph is a transparent yellowish liquid, a kind of connective tissue of the body. It flows through the lymphatic system from the bottom up, from the tips of the fingers and toes to the thoracic lymphatic duct. Lymph returns proteins, water, salts, toxins, metabolites from tissues to the blood for excretion. Lymphatic fluid is involved in the formation of immunity, protection from microbes and viruses, recovery after intoxication. Also, lymph is released on fresh wounds and abrasions. The lymphocytes contained in it protect the damaged area from infections. Lymphatic drainage massage accelerates the movement of lymph through the body. The liquid begins to circulate faster, removing processed products from the intercellular space.

How does the lymph flow work?

The lymphatic system is an ideal natural mechanism that removes and neutralizes waste and waste products of the body, pumps out excess fluid from it. During various acute and chronic diseases, various toxins, viruses and microbes are dumped into it, and during the diet period it absorbs the remnants of the decay of fat cells. Normally, the lymphatic system pumps out from 2 to 4 liters of intercellular fluid and waste per day, cleansing the body.

However, the lymph flow slows down with age in humans, and the lymphatic system ceases to cope with its work. Improper nutrition contributes to failures: tissues stop removing fluid in the required volume at the right time, there are swelling of the legs, puffiness of the face, bags and under the eyes appear.

If the lymphatic system does not work well, fluid accumulates in the body, the lymph nodes are overloaded and clogged with toxins and decay products, metabolic processes are disrupted and the immune system suffers: any, even minor infection can lead to the development of acute diseases or exacerbation of chronic ones.

In order to get rid of problems (and even better – to avoid them), you need to adjust the work of the lymphatic system. How to do it? The answer is simple: pump the lymph with a lymphatic drainage massage of the legs or the whole body.

The main indications for the procedure

A course of lymphatic drainage massage is prescribed for the following conditions:

  • Constant lethargy, increased fatigue.
  • Frequent prolonged colds.
  • Pain all over the body.
  • Excess weight, cellulite.
  • Varicose veins, circulatory disorders of the extremities.
  •
  • Postoperative scars, stretch marks.
  • Swelling, the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.
  • Acne, acne, papilloma’s, age spots.
  • Slow skin regeneration;
  • Rough stretch marks and scars resulting from injuries;
  • The initial stage of varicose veins;
  • Reduced skin elasticity;
  • Omission (ptosis) of facial tissues;
  • Poor psycho-emotional state;
  • Lymphostasis;
  • Postoperative recovery and rehabilitation after injuries;
  • Weak immunity.

Lymphatic drainage massage of the body stimulates the movement of lymph from the organs to the central lymphatic vessels flowing into the thoracic lymph flow and the inferior vena cava. The accumulated liquid is mechanically pushed through, overcoming stagnation. The lymph begins to circulate freely, saturating the body tissues with oxygen and nutrients.

Effect of the procedure

The speed of lymph movement increases. The muscles that are around the lymphatic vessels relax. This leads to positive changes:

  • weight decreases — depending on personal characteristics, patients lose up to 1-2 kg during the course;
  • swelling disappears or becomes noticeably less;
  • the condition of the skin improves — scratches, bruises and acne heal faster, the skin is smoothed, tone returns to it;
  • the severity of cellulite decreases, the silhouette tightens;
  • veins become stronger, varicose veins become smaller;
  • well-being improves, fatigue passes;
  • the mood is normalized.

You feel cheerful, light, full of strength, while noticeably improving the figure and condition of the face. To consolidate the effect, it is worth undergoing massage sessions with a course of 7-10 procedures. The frequency is determined by a specialist.

Who is suitable for this type of massage

Lymphatic drainage massage is perfect for anyone who has no contraindications. It can be used as an independent way to correct the figure and get rid of cellulite. Or as one of the components of an integrated approach: this way it will be even easier and more effective to lose extra pounds and centimeters.

Lymphatic drainage is effective for women and men at any age. It is especially important to complete the course if:

  • You constantly feel sluggish and tired, often get sick, suffer from insomnia or regularly face stress. Lymphatic drainage has a beneficial effect on the psycho-emotional state and strengthens the immune system.
  • You notice swelling on the body, there are “bags” under the eyes. Arms and legs swell even after prolonged sitting or, for example, sleeping. This may be evidence of improper functioning of the lymphatic system.
  • You noticed changes in the structure of the skin: acne or unwanted pigmentation suddenly appeared.
  • You dream of losing weight and tightening your figure, restoring elasticity to the skin.
  • You have noticed age—related changes – swelling, loss of elasticity and tone, a change in the oval of the face.
  • You are recovering from an injury or surgery — lymphatic drainage will speed up regeneration and shorten the rehabilitation period.
  • You regularly do strength sports. Massage is a great way to recover after hard workouts.

Differences from other types of massage

Lymphatic drainage massage is often compared with classical and anti-cellulite. But each method differs in the type of impact and intensity of sensations.

Lymphatic drainage massage is performed with gentle stroking movements, a massage therapist (or an apparatus, if you choose mechanical massage) affects the lymphatic system — nodes and the direction of fluid flow. In contrast to this technique, anti-cellulite massage is aimed at “breaking” fat cells: the massage therapist affects the body quite intensively, seeks to accelerate the flow of blood and get rid of the fluid fat cells.

Classical massage is aimed at the muscles at all. With the use of traditional techniques, spasmodic muscles, fascia are warmed up, the natural volume of movements is restored. Normalization of blood flow and lymph flow is also observed, but to a lesser extent.

Advantages over other types of massage

Each type of exposure is good for certain indications and purposes. But lymphatic drainage has several important advantages:

  • While anti-cellulite massage can be unpleasant and even hard to bear for people with a high degree of sensitivity, lymphatic drainage feels comfortable.
  • The technique is suitable for rejuvenation, and for getting rid of excess weight, and for improving the condition of the skin.
  • The fight against varicose veins — in the initial stages, lymphatic drainage helps to put the veins in order.
  • Strengthening immunity. Another consequence of lymphatic drainage massage: due to the normalization of lymph flow, the immune system is strengthened, the mood and well-being become better.
  • Different impact zones. Anti-cellulite massage is done only on the body, lymphatic drainage can also be performed on the face, neck.
